Post Dream Assessment
"Being a mistress on the side- might not appeal to fools like you
Creeping around on the side- might not be something you would
But
You haven't seen my man, you haven't seen my man
You haven't seen my man, you haven't seen him
He's got the fire and he walks with it
He's got the fire and he talks with it."
This morning, this gloomy morning, I woke up with these lyrics branded into my mind. No particular reason, no special meaning, just a merlot medley of sultry symbolism haunting the halls of my subconscious. (Excessive words- felt nice to say)
One of my favourite things to do in the mornings is interpret my dreams. I am a dreamer. Most nights are filled with a mix of memories, repetition, and symbolism. Two of my most re-occurring dreams are a bear chasing or mauling me and a nuclear war from a variety of perspectives. Sometimes, the two will go hand in hand but most of my dreams are one or the other.
Last night, I had the bear chasing me for a while, though the bear was in a leather straight jacket and a little leather hat- he was dressed as "Mr. X" from Resident Evil. That imagery made sense to me when I woke up; I've been playing Resident Evil in excess lately- but what about the bear? What is the meaning of the bear this time?
Some times, the bear is stoppable, trick-able, avoidable, or altogether a dunce; easy to outrun. Other times, the bear is a stubborn assailant that cannot be quelled or killed, which leads to a mauling. Often, the bear is behind me, but other times the bear is across a river and out of reach- visible, but unable to harm me.
This time, the bear was stalking me at an overwhelming pace that I could dodge from time to time, though he would knock me down temporarily or push me into a wall. Enough to terrorize and stress me out, but never catching me fully.
Before I had time to process the bear, I was swept into another dream- one that felt prophetic. I was in the park in Chicago with an acquaintance of mine that's engaged. We were on a swing set, then we were walking in the park. we walked along many familiar places from my childhood; along the school, then near the lake, and around the block of some newer skyscrapers. It was a beautiful sunny morning, with no clouds in the sky. We were in a debate about marriages, relationships, and life. Somewhere along our walk I told him: "Ninety nine percent of people who end up in a bad marriage know before they get married that it's not the right person for them."
I was trying to warn him of his upcoming marriage in my dream.
What the bear and the warning have in common, I do not know, but I do know that the lack of understanding of the correlation between the two has haunted me since I woke up.
If you, as the reader, have any ideas as to the correlation between the two dreams and the song lyrics, I'd love to hear your theories.
Otherwise, I'm going to leave this post up and go write at the coffee shop down the road.
Cheers, talk soon.
